With its stainless steel case complete with flawless zaratsu polishing, diamond-polished hands, and hour markers, the overall quality of the SBGA003 blows many Swiss competitors out of the water. Grand Seiko knows a thing or two about creating dials with the SBGA003 featuring a jet black one. This gracefully understated dial is brilliantly executed to allow for the dial features to take center stage. There are two very functional additions here, a three-day power reserve indicator at the seven o’clock position and a date window at three. A highly polished seconds hand glides over the dial in a true Spring Drive smooth fashion and perfectly complements the razor-sharp dauphine hands and multi-faceted hour markers. The coherence between the finishing on this particular model from the case, to the dial, to the movement is nothing short of staggering. This piece strikes that tricky balance between remaining restrained and understated and yet still sporty and versatile.
